- Make sure your child has opportunities for success. Martial Arts Training is very goal oriented. Earning a new belt level is a very tangible result.
- Applaud your child for their efforts. Acknowledge their hard work and persistence in trying to reach her goals.
- Encourage him to tackle challenges on their own. Martial Arts training is suppose to be challenging. Instructors will encourage children to persevere until they overcome their challenges inside and outside the martial arts school
- Accept your child's individuality. Avoid comparing her to other kids! Martial Arts training is not a team sport it is competition against yourself.
- Encourage your child to recognize their own unique strengths and use them well. In martial arts training each child is judged on their personal ability.
- Be a role model by taking on new tasks, speaking up, and demonstrating confidence through your own actions. Martial arts instructors are very powerful role models for children to look up to.
- Remind your child, again and again, that everyone makes mistakes. Self-confidence comes from learning what one can do differently next time and neither giving up or blaming circumstances. Martial arts teaches students, “Indomitable Spirit” to never give up no matter how difficult the situation is.
- Remind yourself progress not perfection. Self-confidence is like a muscle that develops with practice and experience. Martial Arts training is a journey of continued self improvement not a destination.
